His service is confirmed by notation in the US - Veterans Schedule (1890) Roll 53. The regiment was formed in the autumn of 1863 in Auburn, NY and first fought in the Battle of the Wilderness in May 1864. They were in many other battles and were also present at Appomattox Courthouse for the formal surrender by General Lee to General Grant.
